We focus on the fundamental kinetics and reaction chemistry to get a deeper insight into the mechanism of the thermochemical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass and other solid fuels and to aid the development of lignocellulosic biomass utilization processes. There are strong incentives to develop the production of fuels and chemicals from thermochemical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass. Research focused on the kinetics and reaction chemistry will permit a better understanding and controlling biomass thermochemical conversion processes.

12/16, 2018: Junmeng Cai gave an invited presentation about lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis for liquid fuels in International Symposium on Whole Industry Chain of Bio-Asphalt at Chang'an University.

09/25, 2018: Zhujun Dong Honored with National Scholarship for Graduate Excellence.

Congratulations to Zhujun Dong who received the 2017-2018 National Scholarship for Graduate Excellence. This scholarship was established by the Chinese Central Government. Recipients demonstrate records of achievement in moral quality, academics and research capacity.

04/22, 2018: Junmeng Cai gave a presentation about lignocellulose biomass pyrolysis in the seminar for Associate and Assisstant Professors at School of Agriculture and Biology and was awarded the Second Prize.

04/02, 2018: Congrats to Junmeng Cai for being awarded a grant from CAS Key Laboratory of Renewable Energy.

     

03/20, 2018: GRFC China-UK Cross Disciplinary Workshop on Bio-Bitumen will be held in Shanghai on 3rd-6th April, 2018, organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Aston University (UK). Researchers and professionals from both academia and industry are welcome to attend the workshop and training sessions. link.

01/19, 2018: Junmeng Cai and Dr. Yuqing Zhang (Lecture from Aston University) were awarded the GCRF Networking Grant. The purpose of this Grant is to facilitate inter-disciplinary partnerships between researchers in the UK and researchers in developing countries. Link.

Our new manuscript "Processing thermogravimetric analysis data for isoconversional kinetic analysis of lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis: Case study of corn stalk" was just accepted to Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews. This work is a collaboration between undergraduate student Di Xu and graduate student Zhujun Dong from Prof. Cai's research group, Dr. Xi Yu, Dr. Yang Yang, Dr. Scott W. Banks and Prof. Anthony V. Bridgwater from European Bioenergy Research Institute at Aston University in UK. According to the Journal Citation Reports, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews has an impact factor of 8.050, ranking it 5th out of 92 journals in the category "Energy & Fuels". Congratulations to all!

11/10, 2014: Weixuan Wu and Yang Yu attended the EU-China Workshop on Resource Recovery from Biomass and Green Technology in Waste/Wastewater Treatment co-organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Southampton. Weixuan Wu presented a research poster and gave a short presentation on Pyrolysis and Combustion Kinetics of Tobacco Waste. The conference was held on November 8-9, 2014 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

09/26, 2014: Zhicai Cheng's article "Applicability of Fraser-Suzuki Function in Kinetic Analysis of DAEM Processes and Lignocellulosic Biomass Pyrolysis Processes" has been accepted for publication in Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry. Congrats!

12/27, 2013: Weixuan Wu named 2012-2013 National Scholarship for Graduate Excellence recipient.

Weixuan Wu, a second-year graduate student in our research group, was recently named the recipient of the National Scholarship. She was one of eight final winners at School of Agriculture and Biology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The National Scholarship for Graduate Excellence, presented by the Ministry of Finance of China, was set to be awared to outstanding graduate students in China studying for their master's degrees. Applications for the scholarship were judged on grade point average, moral quality, academic achievement and research capacity. The outstanding graduate students will each receive 20,000 yuan per year.

10/28, 2013: Weixuan Wu attended the Seventh National Graduate Conference on Biomass Energy and presented a research poster on biomass pyrolysis kinetics. The conference was held October 27-29, 2013 at Tianjin University.

10/14, 2013: Professor Norman R. Scott from Department of Biological & Environmental Engineering, Cornell University visited our laborary and gave us a great presentation "'Towards' Sustainable Energy: Biomass Opportunities and Challenges."

09/05, 2013: "Isoconversional Kinetic Analysis of Distributed Activation Energy Model Processes for Pyrolysis of Solid Fules" has been published in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research as a full paper.

03/18, 2013: Collaboration work with Professor George W. Huber has been published in Green Chemistry, "A Distributed Activation Energy Model for the Pyrolysis of Lignocellulosic Biomass." In this paper, we gave a comprehensive kinetic model for the pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass. According to the Journal Citation Reports, Green Chemistry has an impact factor of 6.828, ranking it 18th out of 152 journals in the category "Chemistry, Multidisciplinary."
