We focus on the fundamental reaction kinetics to get a
deeper insight into the mechanism of the thermal decomposition and
to aid the development of lignocellulosic biomass utilization
processes. There are strong incentives to develop the production of
fuels and chemicals from thermochemical conversion of
lignocellulosic biomass. Lignocellulosic biomass is a complex
mixture of highly oxygenated biopolymers. Conversion to fuels and
chemicals requires a significant reduction in oxidation state, which
can be done by catalytic system. Research focused on the kinetics of
biomass thermochemical conversion will permit a better understanding and
controlling the biomass conversion process.

2013 National Scholarship recipient.
Weixuan Wu, a second-year graduate
student in our research group, was recently named the
recipient of the National Scholarship. She was one of the
eight final winners in School of Agriculture and Biology,
Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The National Scholarship, presented by
the Ministry of Finance of China, was set to be awared to
outstanding graduate students in China studying for their
master's degrees. Applications for the scholarship were
judged on general point average, moral quality, academic
achievement and research capacity. The outstanding graduate
students will each receive 20,000 yuan per year.

Distributed Activation Energy Model for the Pyrolysis of
Lignocellulosic Biomass." In this paper, we gave a comprehensive
kinetic model for the pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass.
According to the Journal Citation Reports, Green Chemistry has an
impact factor of 6.828, ranking it 18th out of 152
journals in the category "Chemistry, Multidisciplinary."
