We focus on the fundamental reaction kinetics to get a deeper insight into the mechanism of the thermal decomposition and to aid the development of lignocellulosic biomass utilization processes. There are strong incentives to develop the production of fuels and chemicals from thermochemical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass. Lignocellulosic biomass is a complex mixture of highly oxygenated biopolymers. Conversion to fuels and chemicals requires a significant reduction in oxidation state, which can be done by catalytic system. Research focused on the kinetics of biomass thermochemical conversion will permit a better understanding and controlling the biomass conversion process.

9/19, 2015: Yang Yu, Zhicai Cheng and Junmeng Cai attended the 22nd Annual CSCST-SCI conference focusing on Renewable Energy and Novel Materials for a Sustainable Future at Aston University.

9/16, 2015: Yang Yu and Zhicai Cheng start their research about biomass pyrolysis at European Bioenergy Research Institute, Aston University. They will stay until 11/30, 2015.

12/19, 2014: Li Huang and Tao Ding have joint first authorship on a research article, which was just accepted for publication in Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, congrats! The title of the article is "Prediction of Concentration Profiles and Theoretical Yields in Lignocellulosic Biomass Pyrolysis".

11/10, 2014: Weixuan Wu and Yang Yu attended the EU-China Workshop on Resource Recovery from Biomass and Green Technology in Waste/Wastewater Treatment co-organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of Southampton. Weixuan Wu presented a research poster and gave a short presentation on Pyrolysis and Combustion Kinetics of Tobacco Waste. The conference was held on November 8-9, 2014 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

09/26, 2014: Zhicai Cheng's article "Applicability of Fraser-Suzuki Function in Kinetic Analysis of DAEM Processes and Lignocellulosic Biomass Pyrolysis Processes" has been accepted for publication in Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry. Congrats!

05/21, 2014: Our review article "An Overview of Distributed Activation Energy Model and Its Application in the Pyrolysis of Lignocellulosic Biomass" has been published in Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews. According to the Journal Citation Reports, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews has an impact factor of 5.627, ranking it 5th out of 81 journals in the category "Energy & Fuels."

12/27, 2013: Weixuan Wu named 2013 National Scholarship recipient.

Weixuan Wu, a second-year graduate student in our research group, was recently named the recipient of the National Scholarship. She was one of the eight final winners in School of Agriculture and Biology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The National Scholarship, presented by the Ministry of Finance of China, was set to be awared to outstanding graduate students in China studying for their master's degrees. Applications for the scholarship were judged on general point average, moral quality, academic achievement and research capacity. The outstanding graduate students will each receive 20,000 yuan per year.

10/28, 2013: Weixuan Wu attended the Seventh National Graduate Conference on Biomass Energy and presented a research poster on biomass pyrolysis kinetics. The conference was held October 27-29, 2013 at Tianjin University.

10/14, 2013: Professor Norman R. Scott from Department of Biological & Environmental Engineering, Cornell University visited our laborary and gave us a great presentation "'Towards' Sustainable Energy: Biomass Opportunities and Challenges."

09/05, 2013: "Isoconversional Kinetic Analysis of Distributed Activation Energy Model Processes for Pyrolysis of Solid Fules" has been published in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research as a full paper.

03/18, 2013: Collaboration work with Professor George W. Huber has been published in Green Chemistry, "A Distributed Activation Energy Model for the Pyrolysis of Lignocellulosic Biomass." In this paper, we gave a comprehensive kinetic model for the pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass. According to the Journal Citation Reports, Green Chemistry has an impact factor of 6.828, ranking it 18th out of 152 journals in the category "Chemistry, Multidisciplinary."
